#BahubaliTheBegining

So I finally got myself to watch Bahubali. I have been seeing the advert since last year and every time it aired on Sony Max, I would simply change the station. The thing is I am not a fan of war films so it didn't appeal to me.

Fastforward July 2016 and I am browsing stations on a boring TV Saturday and I stopped at Sony Max; Bahubali was on and I decided to watch... I didn't believe that I would be sitting right there glued to the screen. It was amazing!!!

Therefore, today's #FridayShot will be on Bahubali - The beginning...

Bahubali is a 2015 Indian epic historical fiction film directed by S. S. Rajamouli. It stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah and Anushka Shetty in lead roles while Sathyaraj, Ramya Krishnan, Nassar, Adivi Sesh, Tanikella Bharani and Sudeep appear in supporting roles.

THE PLOT

In the ancient Kingdom of Mahishmati in India, a queen named Sivagami, emerges from a cave adjoining a big waterfall, carrying a baby. She kills the soldiers pursuing her and sacrifices herself to save the baby. Local villagers spot the baby held aloft in the drowning queen's hand and rescue the infant. The queen drowns after pointing towards the mountain above the waterfall. Sanga and  her husband name the infant Shiva and raise him as their own son.

Shiva grows up to be a strong young man aspiring to hike the mountain and makes many unsuccessful attempts at it. He then finds the mask of a girl which falls from the waterfall. Driven to find out the identity of the girl, he climbs the mountain again and succeeds this time.

On top of the waterfall, Shiva discovers that the mask belongs to Avanthika, a rebellious warrior whose group has indulged in a guerilla warfare against king Bhallala Deva of the Mahishmati Kingdom. The group intends to rescue their former queen Devasena who has been chained in the kingdom for the past 25 years. Avanthika is given the opportunity to rescue the queen.

Avanthika falls in love with Shiva after she finds out that he has climbed the waterfall for her. Shiva pledges to help her in her mission and sneaks into Mahishmati to rescue Devasena. Shiva rescues her and flees along with her but is chased down by the king's royal slave, Kattappa, known for his great warrior abilities. After Shiva beheads Bhadra, Bhallala Deva's son, Kattappa drops his weapons on realising that Shiva is Mahendra Baahubali, the son of late king Amarendra Baahubali.

A flashback reveals Amarendra Bahubali's past. Amarendra's mother died while giving him birth, while his father had died much before that. Sivagami takes charge of running the kingdom with Kattapa's assistance until a new king is elected. Amarendra Bahubali and Bhallala Deva are brought up together, trained in all areas including arts, science, disguise, politics and warfare, but both of them have different approaches towards kingship. Amarendra Baahubali is liberal to everyone but Bhallala Deva is violent and achieves his goals with any means possible, even trying to kill Bahubali.

When a war is forced upon Mahishmati by the Kalakeyas, Sivagami promises that the new king will be the one who beheads the Kalakeya king and orders that the war resources be distributed equally between the two cousins. Bijjala Deva, Bhallala Deva's father, uses his cunningness to make sure Bhallala deva gets the maximum resources. This did not deter Amarendra Bahubali as he uses his wisdom to design his ammunition from the tent material.

During the war and at the point when it seemed that Mahishmati would end up being defeated, Amarendra inspires his soldiers to fight to the death and they end up crushing the enemy. Despite Bhallala Deva being the one to kill the Kalakeya king, Sivagami announces Amarendra Bahubali as the new emperor because of his nobility and leadership in the war.

After the flashback, when asked about Amarendra's current whereabouts, a tearful Katappa reveals that the King is dead, and that Katappa himself is the one responsible for his death.

..........................................................

OK... So there are a lot of amazing and spine chilling scenes that have not been told in the above plot from wikipedia like how wisely Amarendra Bahubali dealt with the situation where the Kalakeyas had used the citizens of Mahishmati as human shields as against how Bhallala Deva just killed them regardless.

I also loved how Amarendra Bahubali's cloth-like ammunition was revealed. The look of defeat on the face of Bijjala Deva and his son was epic!

Another amazing scene was when they revealed the look of Devasena. The way the wind blew her hair away from her face and the look in her eyes was just - wow!

Also, how Bahubali had mercilessly beaten the leader of the Kalakeya but didn't intend to kill him per the instruction of the queen but that stupid Bhallala Deva just killed him because he wanted to be king.

There was also the scene where they were strategising and planning how to protect the kingdom of Mahishmati. It wasn't like anything I had seen before, I tell you!

Oh yes, that part where some slaves were trying to mount a huge statue and Shiva saved the day was mind blowing.

That final scene where Katappa killed Amarendra Bahubali was heartbreaking. The producers have beautifully put us in suspense and longing to see the conclusion which is scheduled for release this year. I definitely want to know why Katappa did that...

If you haven't seen this movie, please do! You won't regret it...

#InsensitiveSalman

I still can't believe that I missed this hashtag trend... It trended for a few days last month and from what I gather, it was as a result of a rape comment made by the Bollywood star, Salman Khan.

Khan (50), made the remark during media interviews last month while he was promoting his film, Sultan, in which he plays a professional wrestler.

'It is the most difficult thing,' the actor told reporters in Mumbai when asked about his training schedule. 'When I used to walk out of that ring, it used to be like a raped woman walking out.'

The National Commission for Women (NCW) Chief in India had issued summons to Salman Khan for the remark; giving him seven days to apologise for the comment that hurt the sentiments of many and sparked a huge debate nationwide. Salman's counsel was confirmed to have responded to the summon but not with an apology from the actor.

I also gathered that at the poster launch for his upcoming film, Dangal, Aamir Khan had been asked about what he felt on the remark and was quoted as saying... 'I wasn't present when he made the comment. I feel, going purely by the media reports that I have been reading, what he said was rather unfortunate and insensitive...'

Salman seems to get into a lot of trouble.. the 2002 hit-and-run case, the killing of endangered animal (Salman Khan was accused alongside seven others of poaching two protected antelopes and a gazelle in Rajasthan back in 1998 for which he spent nearly a week in jail in 2007), now this!

And it seems, he always gets away with them...

I am a big fan of Salman but I think he should apologise because the statement is indeed very insensitive. Rape is a major issue in India and the world. I mean, how does he know what a raped woman feel, he doesn't know the half of it!? It is an unfair and unjust statement and he should take it back.

#HappyBirthdayNaseeruddinShah

Its Naseeruddin Shah's birthday today.
The actor who turned 67 today sent twitter abuzz with wishes for the legendary actor.

Notable among such greetings was the tweet from Amitabh Bachchan (@SrBachchan) to wish him well for his birthday.

The actor has hundreds of films to his credit but my favorite are from Krrish, Main Hoon Na, and Ishqiya.

Here is wishing the forever great actor and legend a very Happy Birthday.

#CanYouRideACycle

Yesterday, I shared a reveal of #DearZindagi as shared by Alia Bhatt (read here).

Today, SRK has revealed the release date of the movie in a rather subtle manner - as always!.

In a post on his twitter handle (@iamsrk), ShahRukh wrote... 'Dear Alia. Not all the answers, but I can give it a shot. Penning in your appointment on the 25th November (this year). My office is next to a theatre near you'... He then signs if off with 'P.S. Can you ride a cycle?'

It is not clear what relationship will be played by the pair in the movie but whatever it is, I am looking forward to this one...

Hopefully, the trailer will be out in a few weeks and you can trust me to share it with you.

#KingOfHearts

For those who love Zee World (or India Telemundo as some would call it), get in here...

Zee World Africa will soon begin to show the English version of Jamai Raja. It's a series that tells the story of how Sidharth tries to mend the sour relationship between a mother and her daughter (DD and Roshni).

We will also see the evolution of #SidNi (just like we had #AarYa for Married Again), if you know what I mean ;)

I love this serial, saw a couple of episodes on Zee TV before they changed the time slots so I am definitely looking forward to watching it.

The show starts 29th July and who knows... perhaps, we will all find something to tweet about again. I miss those good old #MarriedAgain tweets.

#DearZindagi

Last year, I read on Karan Johar's TL, the details of a movie that would star Shahrukh Khan and Alia Bhatt. (At that time, Dilwale's promotion was on and I was enjoying seeing my favorite jodi of SRK and Kajol on screen again).

The pairing didn't seem right. Alia was 22 and SRK was 50. But what the heck?! If they look good together, right???... It seems age is just a number these days because really, SRK does not look any thing near 50?!

Such pairing wouldn't be the first, neither will it be the last. In fact, it seems it's the new norm. Does this mean that the actresses we grew up loving are now bound to a certain age to play heroines??? Or the heroes just prefer heroines half their age???

Today, I see the first look of the movie on Alia's handle (@alia008) and it looks all shades of amazing. SRK looking darn hot and Alia looking uber cute...

She shared a couple of teasers after this one and it only makes us yearn to see what the movie is about. (See pictures at the end of post)

Of course SRK responded and we sure know how awesome he can be with his choice of words.

I can't wait to see the trailer and I hope it does good at the end...
