I still can't believe that I missed this hashtag trend... It trended for a few days last month and from what I gather, it was as a result of a rape comment made by the Bollywood star, Salman Khan.
Khan (50), made the remark during media interviews last month while he was promoting his film, Sultan, in which he plays a professional wrestler.
'It is the most difficult thing,' the actor told reporters in Mumbai when asked about his training schedule. 'When I used to walk out of that ring, it used to be like a raped woman walking out.'
The National Commission for Women (NCW) Chief in India had issued summons to Salman Khan for the remark; giving him seven days to apologise for the comment that hurt the sentiments of many and sparked a huge debate nationwide. Salman's counsel was confirmed to have responded to the summon but not with an apology from the actor.
I also gathered that at the poster launch for his upcoming film, Dangal, Aamir Khan had been asked about what he felt on the remark and was quoted as saying... 'I wasn't present when he made the comment. I feel, going purely by the media reports that I have been reading, what he said was rather unfortunate and insensitive...'
Salman seems to get into a lot of trouble.. the 2002 hit-and-run case, the killing of endangered animal (Salman Khan was accused alongside seven others of poaching two protected antelopes and a gazelle in Rajasthan back in 1998 for which he spent nearly a week in jail in 2007), now this!
And it seems, he always gets away with them...
I am a big fan of Salman but I think he should apologise because the statement is indeed very insensitive. Rape is a major issue in India and the world. I mean, how does he know what a raped woman feel, he doesn't know the half of it!? It is an unfair and unjust statement and he should take it back.
Wink!
